Web Content That’s Toxic For Your Business

Ademola Abimbola · Read Time: 2 mins ·

Did you know that there is web content toxic for your business?

You might not think of it this way, but you probably spend most of your time on the web sifting through stuff you don’t like.

For every gem of a blog you read, there are hundreds that you look at for only a few seconds before you move on. And why is that?

Because the web is practically bursting with countless unavoidable blogs that post nothing but harmless (and pointless) filler that echoes current trends or news.

So how do you make sure that your web business doesn’t put out the same ho-hum content?

Learn by Example

Professional bloggers are just like any entrepreneur trying to get their name out there.

They’re looking for a way to reach a bigger audience, and the lazier ones will use all the tricks in the book to convince you that their site is worth your time.

They’ll use SEO, link baiting, and smart keyword usage to draw you into their blog, hoping you stay long enough to click around.

But once you stumble upon one of these blogs that (you think) caters to your interests, you find that there’s no substance to their writing.

These bloggers can have a backlog of posts a mile long, but you won’t find a single decent article to their name.

Now, the type of content listed above is much easier to target in theory, but much harder to avoid in practice.

That’s why you should learn how not to write by methodically studying some spammer blogs out there that cater to your market.

Take the time to understand that generic messages about your industry won’t get you any readers, much less any interested customers.

You don’t want to be the business with a blog that pumps out bland content post after post, so distance yourself from those that do.

Be Smart about SEO Usage

Many how-to web marketing blogs will tell you that search engine optimisation (SEO) tactics are the end-all for success in the blogosphere.

But like I said before, implementing smart SEO will only get you so far on the web.

You might bring readers to your blog with keyword-peppered posts that give you a high Google search ranking, but you must have interesting content if you want to retain the web surfers that come your way.

Please think of SEO and your website as an invitation to a party and the party itself, respectively.

You want to create an invitation that intrigues select individuals to your party; but if you’re building their expectations for a blow-out bash, you had better deliver on your promise.

You don’t want your invitees underwhelmed by what you advertise.

Too many blogs have scary smart SEO strategies that lead web users to nothing more than a compendium of click-ads with yawn-inducing blog filler.

If you want to wow potential readers and customers, you have to avoid replicating the subpar content out there and create an online space that distinctly reflects you and your business.

How do you avoid poor web content on your sites?
