Now is also an excellent time to look at improving your brand on social media in preparation for the holiday season.

So how do you go about a brand makeover? Let’s take a look.
For Your Personal Brand
Take a new professional profile picture wearing corporate attire. Remember to smile so that it doesn’t look like a prison mug shot.
Don’t forget that your profile picture is the first opportunity you have to make a good first impression. You don’t get a second chance to make an excellent first impression as they say!
When sending connection requests on LinkedIn, make sure you edit the LinkedIn default/generic link request message, i.e. “I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn”. It is too vague. Edit it to make it more personal.
Try mentioning where you’ve met the person before and why you would like to connect, etc. Provide good reasons why the person should join with you.
Your profile on LinkedIn is an excellent opportunity to tell people what you’re about and what you have to offer. Remember that LinkedIn is a professional network so keep it professional. Highlight your skills and talents.
Even if you’re a fresh graduate with no past work experience highlight all the points that would make someone interested in hiring you. Keep it simple and professional. Use relevant keywords in your profile to help you rank higher in search engines.
The recommendation feature on LinkedIn is a fantastic feature. Seek out and give good reviews. The more recommendations you give, the more you will get! So be generous yet don’t flatter people.
If you’ve done business with someone and you can vouch for specific skills that they have, recommend them. Make sure your recommendations are genuine, professional and respectful.
For Your Business
The tips below are for organisations that have a corporate presence on LinkedIn.
Your Company Page
Does your business have a company page on LinkedIn? Hope you know that a LinkedIn company page is different from your personal LinkedIn profile? I see a lot of business owners using their profile as a sort of ‘company page’.
It is sad because it shows that they don’t know the difference. You can set up a real company page on LinkedIn. Take a look at Mauco’s Linkedin company here.
Craft a simple and straightforward overview of what your business is all about, what you have to offer and what makes you different from your competitors.
Company Page Updates
Now that you’ve set up your company page, post regular updates. There’s nothing more annoying than seeing a company page on LinkedIn – or any other social network – that is not updated.
So long as your business is still operating, you must update your company page with content that you’ve created to showcase your brand as worth doing business. You need to place your company as a thought leader in your industry.
Use relevant keywords in your updates too to give your company an edge in search results. Follow us on LinkedIn to receive our regular updates with loads of tips, how to’s, etc.
