3 Updated Branding Tips for Online Marketing

Developing an identifiable and descriptive brand is an essential aspect of running a successful online business. Most of us know this by now and most of us have instilled some sort of branding in our online marketing campaign. However, creating a brand is much more involved than merely finding a consistent logo and catchphrase. With so much of our business and marketing now taking place online in social media and search engine technology, there are many new(er) techniques to creating a brand that we can incorporate. Follow these three fundamental tips in online branding to create an online presence that locates customers for you and keeps your company relevant in your consumers’ mind.

Know Your Target

One of the most important aspects of branding your business is knowing for whom you are branding. Your advertising and marketing schemes should aim towards a specific demographic. This can be a somewhat more challenging thing to pinpoint. Evaluate your business and current marketing and carefully determine who your actual audience is. Oftentimes, marketers and business people get caught up in their own opinion of who their audience really is. Your actual audience isn’t always who you set it out to be. Do some research and discover who it is that is actually using your service, visiting you sites, and responding to your marketing. You want to target these people with your marketing. Producing consistent messaging that conveys the values of your company. Consistency is what really drives how your brand for your consumers.

Transparent Social Media

Using social media to connect with consumers is no new technique in the online marketing business. However, there is a new trend to become more transparent in the business. You want to engage with your audience in a way that is natural and genuine. Of course, this is no simple procedure. Social media can be a tedious task and, therefore, is often put on the back burner. Try to dedicate a portion of time each week to connecting with your audience through various relevant social media avenues (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.). Try to create conversation with these customers in a way that does not feel spammy or forced. You want to be a “real person” in your social media campaigns, so that your audience truly feels connected to a human being representing the company.

Manage Your Online Reputation

A big part of creating a successful brand for your company is keeping track of what that brand is doing online. With so much of our business and marketing taking place on the web and with the web being such a vast place, it can be easy to lose sight of your brand. Reputation management has become one of the most important aspects of online marketing and business. You should stay on top of where your brand is ranking in conversations around the web. Keep a step ahead of the criticism, so that you can appropriately respond to it and counter it. The dangers of a prevalent brand are that it will constantly be in the consumers view. So, any negative attentions to your company brand are just as easily viewed as the positive attention to your brand. You should regularly Google your brand/company and try to find the negative things that are said about it. Respond to these things in an insightful and useful way. Do not let the internet trolls win over your emotions, but do try to counter any false negative claims about your business. Your online reputation can make or break your brand.
